Volunteer opportunity description

Dogs Trust Freedom Project is seeking volunteer foster carers in the Greater London, Hertfordshire and Essex to care for foster dogs in their own home. These dogs belong to families that are escaping domestic abuse and need temporary help for their pets.

Dogs Trust set up the Freedom Project in 2004 to provide a safe haven for dogs belonging to people fleeing domestic abuse in the Greater London, Hertfordshire and Essex. This is a free service and the dogs are placed directly into volunteer foster homes for up to 6 months.  Since 2004, we have fostered over 1500 pets and helped over 1100 families to flee domestic abuse.

Due to the high demand for our service we are always looking for volunteers with experience of caring for dogs, who are at home during the day and can look after dogs for an average of six months.

All the dogs’ expenses are covered by Dogs Trust, so this is a particularly rewarding volunteering opportunity for dog lovers who aren’t able to own a dog on a permanent basis. It’s also a great opportunity for retired people, who may not want to take on the commitment of a new dog but could benefit from the company of a pet.

Volunteers are also supported by our small, friendly team, including regular home visits and phone support when needed.

Fostering dogs can have many benefits, including keeping you company, helping you to get out and socialise with people, keeping you active and providing comfort in the home.

Please register your interest via the APPLY link above.
