Volunteer opportunity description

Since its foundation in 1611, the Charterhouse has provided accommodation to a community of residents, known as Brothers. Here you can discover their extraordinary story, learn more about becoming a Brother, and explore the fascinating buildings, gardens and governance of the Charterhouse.

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our vibrant Learning Volunteer team. If you enjoy talking to learners of all ages and want to help our share our 660-year history with new audiences, we want you.
Duties will include:
  • Welcoming schools, families and adult learners to our remarkable building and grounds
  • Helping set up the learning centre before and after school, family or adult activities
  • Assisting the Learning Programme Manager with the delivery of school and family sessions
  • Assisting with researching and drafting resource materials for schools, families and adults
  • Assisting with evaluation of the learning programme
  • As a Learning Volunteer you will be the first point of contact for learners taking part in our new learning programme revealing our Medieval, Tudor and Victorian history.
  • Learning Volunteers will work alongside our Visitor Engagement Volunteer team and Front of House staff.
The Charterhouse welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds and abilities. We reimburse out of pocket expenses for this role.

·      Enthusiasm working with schools, families and adult learners

·      Good verbal English skills. Ideally, we would like people who are confident in speaking to small groups of learners – though we can provide training in this

·      Ability to use own initiative

Previous experience of learning or teaching is not required
