Volunteer opportunity description

IROKO is a dynamic traditional African theatre company that uses storytelling, drama, music and dance as a vehicle to enhance the education, skills, health and wellbeing of people of all backgrounds and abilities.

Aim of the role

We are looking for a Funding Proposal Writer to help us secure funds for IROKO to carry out more projects in the UK, working with a range of different client groups e.g. refugees, the elderly, the homeless, people with mental health needs, children and young people, etc.

Description of Duties

The following is a list of the main duties to be undertaken under the guidance and in collaboration with the Artistic Director.

 

  • Familiarisation with IROKO and its services in order to identify funding opportunities which best suit IROKO’s work.
  • Research and target charitable trusts and funders whose criteria match IROKO’s aims, objectives and activities.
  • Make contact and/or attend meetings with potential funders and trusts.
  • Help write funding bids and prepare supporting documentation.
  • Help to prepare a fundraising strategy for IROKO.

Outcome

IROKO secures funding for a number of projects that ensures the organisation’s sustainability in the long term.  

Duration of Volunteer Role

The role is ongoing.  Ideally, between 4 – 8 hours per week.  Input can be undertaken remotely.  From time to time, the volunteer will be required to meet with the Artistic Director/Management in IROKO’s offices in central Stratford.

Out of pocket expenses:

Expenses/travel reimbursed against receipts.

Requirements

  • Experience in funding proposal writing, essential
  • Able to identify funding streams applicable to IROKO’s work and needs, in liaison with the Artistic Director
  • Able to write good quality funding proposals. 
  • Good English and communication skills
  • Team worker and ability to work without close supervision
