Volunteer opportunity description

Food2You is an exciting new shopping delivery service, supporting older people to live healthy, independent and dignified lives at home. The service is run by Age UK Lewisham and Southwark.

Delivery Volunteers accompany the Volunteer Drivers as they collect the shopping orders from the supermarket and deliver them to customers' homes. Delivery Volunteers are responsible for liaising with customers, collecting payments for the shopping and explaining any variance in what they have ordered. They will also assist the Volunteer Drivers with loading and unloading the van, and where required unpacking customers' shopping in their home.

Delivery volunteers must be trustworthy and reliable, and able to keep customer information confidential.

An enhanced DBS check is a requirement for this role.

Fitness to carry boxes of groceries into customers' homes and assist with loading the van.

Numeracy skills to explain shopping charges and give correct change.

People skills to put customers at ease and resolve any concerns about the items delivered.

Responsibility and judgment to pass on any concerns about customers' wellbeing.

Commitment of 4 hours per week minimum.

Volunteers will gain confidence and skills from shadowing staff and experienced volunteers. Food2You volunteers will receive full training in their role and on-going support with any unexpected situations. You will receive great experience working with an established charity, and vital skills for your CV. We will endeavour to provide additional relevant training where feasible, in areas such as First Aid, dementia awareness and malnutrition.

Food2You volunteers will be a part of the Age UK family in Lewisham and Southwark, with regular invites to social events attended by both staff and service users.

We reimburse volunteer expenses.
