Volunteer opportunity description

Fine Cell Work enables prisoners to build fulfilling and crime-free lives by training them to do high-quality, skilled, creative needlework undertaken in the long hours spent in their cells to foster hope, discipline and self esteem.

Mentors provide support and advice to ex-prisoners identified by Fine Cell Work, around employment, further education and training with the aim of helping to reduce reoffending rates. Mentoring will take place in one to one sessions with a mentee assigned to mentors by the Fine Cell Work team.

In this role our volunteer mentors will engage with mentees to help them make positive choices about their lives. They will encourage their mentee to express and discuss their ideas, concerns and understanding of their current situation. Our volunteer mentors will provide motivational support and practical advice to mentees, help them to set realistic goals and refer their mentees to other sources of information.

This is an opportunity for mentors to share their skills with with our ex-offenders, helping them to integrate back into the community and into the workplace.

Expenses/travel will be reimbursed against receipts.

Ideally we would like mentors to offer anywhere from 3-8 hours a month, but we welcome more if you would like.  We are flexible to suit you.
