Volunteer opportunity description

Westminster Befriend a Family (WBAF) is a small established charity, supporting disadvantaged families and young people throughout the Borough of Westminster, providing early intervention support to vulnerable families for 28 years. In an ever-changing environment we have always responded to changing patterns of need in our community by developing innovative services.

Background:

Westminster Befriend A Family is constantly seeking to improve its service offered to the beneficiary families, young people and volunteers.  Our Broadening Horizons programme involves volunteer mentors working with young people experiencing a range of challenges and we are acting on feedback from our beneficiaries and service providers that there is a need for reference/guide books for both mentors and service users to be informed of the conditions they may encounter during their involvement with their mentees.

In addition our disadvantaged parents expressed their desire for guidance to help them gain a better understanding of the different situations, and challenges that might face their children.  The parents’ handbook will be translated into Arabic since it is the most common language for the families we work with.

The volunteering role – creating guide books for our service users and mentors

We are looking for professionals or students in human sciences, social research, international development etc. to work with us and our staff and volunteers to research, design and produce two guidance handbooks for our service providers and beneficiary-families (parents and children).

Therefore, if you have experience, knowledge, understanding or exposure to social development, child development, research methods (which can be interviewing, talking, etc.), mentoring and think you can help please get in touch.
