Volunteer opportunity description

Our Befriending & Outreach Volunteers play a crucial role in overcoming loneliness and helping older people live independently. We work within the London Borough of Merton with people who have little or no social contact.

The role involves visiting an isolated older person in their own home and offering companionship, can include providing help with small household tasks (eg. reading post) and accompanying them out for a walk if they are mobile (driving when/if appropriate).

You don't need any particular qualifications - we just ask you to have a passion for helping others, a non-judgemental attitude, the ability to listen patiently and to empathise with others.

We provide induction training and ongoing support, undertake a DBS check on your behalf due to the unsupervised nature of the role, reimburse travel expenses and arrange ongoing training throughout your time volunteering with us.

The visits can often develop into warm friendships, and this is a flexible role which can fit around your existing work, family life and other commitments. You can give as little as an hour a week on a weekday or weekend in the morning, afternoon or evening.

Please make an enquiry for further information, next steps and to ask any questions at all.

Our volunteers don't need any particular qualifications, just a passion for helping others.
