Volunteer opportunity description

The International Youth Arts Festival Kingston (IYAF) Launched in 2009 has become a must see arts festival and often considered a precursor to Edinburgh Fringe. Showcasing the best young talent nationally and internationally IYAF provides a platform where emerging young artists aged 5-26 years old can reveal and share their skills and artistic expression with local and visiting audiences. Over the last 7 years the growth has been phenomenal; more than 25,000 young people have participated in delivering the festival as artists, project managers, interns, volunteers in over 18 venues.

This is an opportunity to be the 'face' of IYAF. FOH (front of house) Volunteers will be the first point of contact for participating companies and members of the public attending shows throughout the festival.

During the festival there are various performances and events taking place throughout Kingston and welcoming audience members and ensuring the general public have a enjoyable experience is key to this role. As a part of the Front Of House volunteer team you will be required to ensure that all audience members and members of the public are greeted with a welcoming smile and provided with any information they may need.  Selling and checking tickets, festival passes and complimentary tickets may be required at certain venues.  Confidence and the ability to communicate well with a range of people of all ages is a massive help in this role.

FOH volunteers will also meet and greet visiting companies when they arrive at their performance venues, look after any needs they have during the day (apart from technical / performance needs) and will assist with front of house duties before, during and after the performance.

Events that volunteers could work on include theatre, gigs, dance performances, concerts outdoor carnival and circus events and visual arts exhibitions.  This is a great opportunity for anyone that wants experience in the arts and being part of a team for a major event.

Volunteers are invited to work a minimum of 4 days over the festival period - this can be broken up into half days.

Please note that the festival and production office are based in Kingston upon Thames which is accessible by a 30 min South West Train journey direct to  Kingston station.

Volunteers must be personable, bubbly, and able present themselves and information about the festival in a thoughtful, effective manner.
