Volunteer opportunity description

Can you help us build a WW1 trench in the middle of a park? No digging required, just an ability to lift, carry, follow directions and use your creativity to make the trench as true-to-life as possible!

Did you know that during WWI, the Army recreated No Man’s Land right in the middle of London, in Kensington Gardens?

In September 2017, for two weeks only, we’ll be exploring this history through events & activities, including immersive trench tours with the 10th Essex Living History Group. That’s right – for two weeks only, there will be a full sized trench in Kensington Gardens.

But only if you help us build it!

We need volunteers to:

• Help build the trench (8, 9 and 10 September)

• Dismantle the trench (24 September, 4pm – 7pm)

Did you ever think you’d build a trench out of metal fencing, corrugated felt and as much scrap wood as we can get our hands on? This is an opportunity to join an enthusiastic team of people, against a deadline, to bring trench warfare and the experience of WW1 soldiers to life for visitors. Stretch your creative muscles as we turn everyday equipment into a journey into the past.

N.B. There is NO DIGGING involved in the making of this trench.

We are looking for people who:

• Are available for any of the following days: 8, 9, 10 Sept or between 4-7pm on 24 Sept

• Are happy moving, carrying and lifting

• Are confident following instructions

If you're confident using tools, so much the better!

Lunch for full day volunteers and travel expenses will be provided.

Our volunteer needs

We need volunteers who are free at these times
